Core Values

BIBLICAL PROCLAMATION

The central part of our worship gatherings is to hear the preaching of God’s Word, the Bible. We practice what is called expository preaching. Expository preaching is focused on exposing the meaning of a particular passage in the Bible. This means that the main point of a particular passage is the main point of the sermon. We practice this because the Bible is God’s Word. We believe that God has spoken and we want to know what He has said. We are firmly committed to this practice because we know that God brings new life through His Word. We believe that He is at work in believers shaping them into the image of His Son (Rom 8:29) and that He primarily does this through His Word.
All of our Bible Studies (Sunday School, Small Group, Men’s or Women’s Studies) are to be God-centered, faithful to Scripture, and saturated with the Gospel.

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

2 Timothy 4:1-2 (ESV)

ATMOSPHERE OF GRACE

We are sinners who have been transformed by radical grace and we want to express grace to one another.

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

John 1:16 (ESV)

Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!

Psalm 115:1 (ESV)

REGENERATE CHURCH MEMBERSHIP

Regenerate church membership simply means that the membership of a church is to be made up of believers only. The New Testament teaches that a believer is someone who has been born of God by the Holy Spirit leading to them repent of their sins and trust in Christ alone for their salvation. They are people whose lives have been changed by the Spirit of God through the Gospel. Believers’ lives are marked by perseverance in the Gospel. We believe that membership in a local church is not about just having our name on a roll. Instead it is a covenant relationship with other believers in Christ where we commit to Christ and one another to encourage, rebuke, and minister to one another as God is conforming us into the image of Christ. We don’t believe there is a category called “inactive” church member in the New Testament. Therefore, we take great care in receiving new members and also strive to practice church discipline if any of us fall into unrepentant sin. All of this is done in grace seasoned with love. We believe regenerate church membership is essential to being a healthy church.

So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Acts 2:41-42 (ESV)

BIBLICAL EVANGELISM & DISCIPLESHIP

Biblical evangelism is shown when we are faithful to the message of the Gospel and faithful in presenting it to unbelievers. The message informs our methods of sharing the Gospel. We know that only God can give a spiritually dead sinner new life (Eph. 2:1-10). We also know that God uses his people to share the message faithfully in order to draw people to Himself. Therefore, we strive to be faithful to present the Gospel and entrust the results to God.
Biblical discipleship is shown in believers investing their lives in other believers. It is not a program! It is centered on a relationship between a mature believer and a less mature believer (men discipling men and ladies discipling ladies). Discipleship involves this mature believer teaching the younger believer what it means to follow Christ. It will involve teaching him doctrine and modeling for him how this teaching is lived out. All of this is done with a confidence in God’s Word and His Spirit at work within His people.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in1 the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you – unless you believed in vain.
