Membership
After attending worship services, Sunday School, and other church gatherings to become familiar with the church’s doctrine, worship, mission, and members, prospective members should speak with one of the elders to communicate their desire to pursue covenant membership at Pineview Baptist Church.
1. New Member’s Class
New Member’s Classes are held quarterly and led by one or two elders. Classes typically last 2-3 hours, with childcare provided upon request. New member’s classes explain:
- The church’s mission, values, and polity
- The church’s affiliations and partnerships (SBC, SCBC, LBA, Pillar, etc.)
- Pineview’s Statement of Faith (Baptist Faith and Message 2000)
- The responsibilities and privileges of church membership and church covenant
- Church discipline and congregational life
2. Elder Interview
The prospective member meets with one or more elders to discuss:
- Testimony of conversion
- Baptism by immersion as a believer
- Understanding of the gospel
- Agreement with the church’s doctrine and membership covenant
- Desire to submit to the oversight of the church
3. Elder Recommendation
Following the interview, and provided the elders together affirm the prospective member’s profession of faith, the elders recommend qualified candidates to the congregation for membership during the next member’s meeting. Time is provided to ask questions and give testimony about prospective members.
4. Congregational Affirmation
The congregation formally receives the candidate into membership by vote the following Lord’s day, affirming the individual’s profession of faith and commitment to the church.
